New Arai CK-6 Karting helmet, one of the first helmets
to be CIK-FIA CMH Approved for use by juniors. The CIK-FIA (the Commison Internationale de Karting
authority of the FIA) has updated their regulations with the recommendation that all drivers
under the age of 15 should use a Snell-FIA CMH 2007 approved
helmet. This will be made mandatory as of January 2010. This will then follow suit
for kart racing within the U.K. from 1st January 2011. For young drivers under 18, a
CMH approved helmet is NOT mandatory, but still recommended. The use of of a SA
or K approved helmet is otherwise mandatory. The Snell-FIA CMH 2007 (Children's Motorsprot Helmet)
approval was developed to provide a suitable helmet for children to use in
Motorsport, rather than a helmet design for an adult head (& neck) which is
then shrunk down to youth sizes. This new standard only accepts helmets for head
circumferences under 60cms, so children with a larger head should go for the SA
and K standards. The CMH standard sets different maximum weight limits depending
on size, with 1300 grams being the maximum weight for a full face helmet sizes
57-59cms and 1100 grams the maximum weight for sizes 49cms and under. Arai have therefore developed a specific CMH model, the
completely new Arai CK-6 that has been officially Snell-FIA CMR2007
