And anything else requiring unusual oil unions. A few weeks ago, one Saturday, we had a phone call from a man in Leeds. He had a power boat with a turbo charged engine and was finding it impossible to source an oil feed hose: could we help? The answer was yes possibly although hard to know exactly what he’d need over the phone. We suggested that he sent what he had by post (to save a long drive from Leeds) and we’d try to find a match.  But time was short and he needed to sort the problem immediately so he decided to make the 200 mile journey to our workshop. He arrived, we took a look at the problem and in amongst our drawers of lesser requested odds and sods – we found a rare, but exactly right union to fit his Turbo.  He went home a happy man – apparently he’d been struggling to find a solution for weeks.

We can’t always promise that we’ll have a solution to unusual requests like this one but, we like a challenge and we’ll do our best to solve most problems.  So, please remember us to anyone with an odd request (relevant to our business of course – and legal!).

When describing a non-standard problem it can be difficult to explain exactly how you want it fixing over the phone.  When we do eventually get to see a problem close up we often find that it’s not been described clearly or that some relevant fact has been missed out in an earlier discussion.  Therefore, to get the right part, it’s well worth letting us have a close up look.  You don’t need to trek for miles to bring us your problem –stick it in the post and if we have a solution we’ll return it to you asap.

Brake Lines – Made to Measure, While you wait

Tell us what you want and we will make them.  We had a motor factor call into our shop last week needing a flexible brake hose for his Aprilla Scooter. He’d been quoted a 15 day wait for delivery elsewhere but was in a desperate hurry. While he waited in the shop we were able to make one to his size specifications - at a better price we were told.

We can’t always promise to make up brake lines to order while you wait – but more often than not we can.

How to connect your Fuel Filler Caps to Fuel Tanks.

This has always been a problem. We keep fuel resistant rubber hose in 2 inch ID straight and 45 and 90 elbows. This is the correct material - it does not leak or “smell”. The problem is usually with any other sizes. Standard Samco is not suitable for petrol.  Samco have recently bought out a new lining for their Pro-Fuel hose which is suitable. This lining is only available to order (normally a 4 week lead time) but it will be available in straight, elbow, reducer etc for the standard range. The price is roughly double the cost of the standard Samco item.

Junior Kart Helmet by Bell. (NB –Stock to arrive just before Christmas)

Bell Racing Europe was the first manufacturer in the world to certify a helmet to the new CMH Standard, developed jointly by the FIA Institute and the Snell Memorial Foundation. Driver helmets were so far made for adults only and the standards used to approve them were tested on adults. Adult helmets tend to be too heavy and too big for younger drivers. The new Snell-FIA CMH standard has been scientifically developed to create helmets designed for all young racing drivers. Researchers examined and measured the human head from age six onwards and several helmet shapes and sizes were defined. It led to the creation of a Youth Helmet Standard that will soon have to be attained by all young drivers’ helmets.
Under CIK regulations, the Snell-FIA CMH standard (CMR) is recommended for drivers under 18 years old. This standard is for Karting use only and is not accepted for persons older than 18 years.
